Presenting examples of the silhouette art from the upcoming hardcopy edition of the Ghastly Affair role playing game, planned for release in early 2016.
Silhouettes were ubiquitous in the game’s Ghastly Age (the years from 1765 to 1820). People at every level of society loved the dramatic contrast, strong outlines, and accessibility of both cut-paper and painted silhouettes (also known as shades). People turned to silhouette makers for immediate art, just as modern people would use a camera.
My intention for the art is to be sexy without being sexist, creepy without being depressing, edgy without being merely crass. The style of the finished book is to be elegant, text-focused, and evocative of works published in the game’s time period.
Enjoy these shadows of desire, fear, and decadence.
